A simple man embarks on an extraordinary journey.
It's indebted to its source material to the point of creative poverty, but Laal Singh Chaddha is also such an amiable retelling that it's difficult to dislike.

Rahul Desai | The Hollywood Reporter India | Fresh | — | 2024-09-27T21:50:51Z | 2024-09-27 21:50:51 | One glance at Rupa's face in the opening strands of Tere Hawaale, and it emerges that Kapoor Khan is playing a woman who starts dying the day she is born. It's not so much a performance as a subdued symphony of wounds.
Prabhjot Bains | Tilt Magazine | Fresh | — | 2023-11-02T14:03:38Z | 2023-11-02 14:03:38 | Like a box of “Gol Gappe” Laal Singh Chaddha adds a depth of flavour to what might otherwise have been an uninspired adaptation.
Common Sense Media Editors | Common Sense Media | Fresh | 4/5 | 2023-04-05T17:17:53Z | 2023-04-05 17:17:53 | It's quite the gender role reversal from what usually plays out in most Indian households every day. To watch this man be soft and vulnerable -- far removed from the ideas of toxic masculinity -- is a thing of beauty.
Rohan Naahar | The Indian Express | Fresh | — | 2022-10-09T05:20:32Z | 2022-10-09 05:20:32 | There's a lot wrong with the numbingly mid Laal Singh Chaddha, but Aamir Khan's central performance isn't at the top of the list.
James Marsh | South China Morning Post | Fresh | 3/5 | 2022-08-31T09:20:08Z | 2022-08-31 09:20:08 | Like Forrest Gump, Khan’s film lives or dies on your tolerance for its cloying, somewhat patronising central performance, which remains here just as polarising as ever.
Poulomi Das | News9 Live (India) | Rotten | 2.5/5 | 2022-08-20T00:51:13Z | 2022-08-20 00:51:13 | It's hard to justify the purpose of a remake that doesn't seem interested in rethinking a source material in a way that is attuned to present times and is invested in only recreating it.

Ian Freer | Empire Magazine | Fresh | 3/5 | 2022-08-16T17:37:19Z | 2022-08-16 17:37:19 | If you have a passing knowledge of Gump, Laal Singh Chaddha is often a strange experience, in places a Gus Van Sant-esque facsimile rather than a remake. But it is not without its charms.
Kshitij Rawat | Wion | Rotten | — | 2022-08-13T15:04:44Z | 2022-08-13 15:04:44 | 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is a pale imitation of 'Forrest Gump'. Despite individual brilliance at times, it is more 'Dull Singh Chaddha'.
Carla Hay | Culture Mix | Rotten | — | 2022-08-13T08:04:38Z | 2022-08-13 08:04:38 | Laal Singh Chaddha, the Indian version of Forrest Gump, is an underwhelming remake that has no real surprises, doesn’t take any creative risks, and drags on for far too long ... Worst of all: Aamir Khan’s constant mugging for the camera is too blatant.
Matt Rodriguez | Shakefire | Rotten | 2.5/5 | 2022-08-12T19:20:54Z | 2022-08-12 19:20:54 | The film can feel rather lackluster as it goes through the motions rather than carve out its own path. The performances and production are fine, but it’s difficult to leave a lasting impression when you live in the shadow of the original Forrest Gump.
Jimmy Cage | Jimmy Cage Movie Reviews (YouTube) | Rotten | 6/10 | 2022-08-12T15:54:24Z | 2022-08-12 15:54:24 | LAAL SINGH CHADDHA is good enough to watch once. But overall, it’s quite uninspired and unfortunately Aamir Khan doesn’t do the film any favors with his always somewhat exaggerated and almost caricature-like portrayal.
Witney Seibold | Slashfilm | Fresh | 7/10 | 2022-08-12T00:52:57Z | 2022-08-12 00:52:57 | Despite how corny it is, Laal Singh Chaddha it unexpectedly disarming.

Saibal Chatterjee | NDTV | Fresh | 3/5 | 2022-08-12T00:50:47Z | 2022-08-12 00:50:47 | A de-aged Aamir Khan throws all that he has into the role and comes up with a simpleton who is wondrously loveable.
Renuka Vyavahare | The Times of India | Fresh | 3.5/5 | 2022-08-12T00:50:04Z | 2022-08-12 00:50:04 | You will particularly remember a crackling Shah Rukh Khan cameo and heartwarming special appearance by Kamini Kaushal.
Shubhra Gupta | The Indian Express | Rotten | 2/5 | 2022-08-12T00:49:33Z | 2022-08-12 00:49:33 | It’s not just the pace of the film which is the trouble. It is also, centrally and crucially, Sardar Laal Singh Chaddha himself, as played by Aamir Khan.
Nandini Ramnath | Scroll.in | Fresh | — | 2022-08-11T22:51:27Z | 2022-08-11 22:51:27 | Kareena Kapoor Khan, whose power to stop a film in its tracks with minimal make-up and ordinary costumes is only getting stronger, is luminous as Rupa.

Nicolas Rapold | New York Times | Rotten | — | 2022-08-11T17:40:39Z | 2022-08-11 17:40:39 | The movie’s charms are limited by what comes to feel like a coddling conceit.

Courtney Howard | Fresh Fiction | Fresh | A | 2022-08-11T03:54:28Z | 2022-08-11 03:54:28 | Heartwarming, tender and humorous, this is a beautiful, emotionally bountiful, big screen valentine to its cinematic forbearer and to lives well-led.
David Kaplan | Kaplan vs. Kaplan | Fresh | — | 2022-08-10T17:05:07Z | 2022-08-10 17:05:07 | The ensemble cast is impeccable, as is the writing, the music and the cinematography.
Mike McCahill | Guardian | Fresh | 3/5 | 2022-08-10T16:44:58Z | 2022-08-10 16:44:58 | Assiduously replicating its predecessor’s strengths and weaknesses, the one thing it risks is that a three-word summary – Hindi Forrest Gump – would tell you all you ever needed to know about it.
J Hurtado | Austin Chronicle | Rotten | — | 2022-08-10T13:16:54Z | 2022-08-10 13:16:54 | Laal Singh Chaddha is Forrest Gump for people who thought the original film was too edgy, and that’s not a good place to be.

Jeanne Kaplan | Kaplan vs. Kaplan | Fresh | — | 2022-08-10T05:19:45Z | 2022-08-10 05:19:45 | Chandan and his amazing cast envelop the audience in a cocoon of warmth and love.
Carlos Aguilar | TheWrap | Rotten | — | 2022-08-09T17:28:06Z | 2022-08-09 17:28:06 | What remains troubling about the essence of the premise, regardless of its language and cultural context, is that it insinuates the protagonist’s disposition for good and kindness derives from his cognitive disability.
Proma Khosla | IndieWire | Fresh | B+ | 2022-08-09T17:17:11Z | 2022-08-09 17:17:11 | Instead of a box of chocolates or the obvious Indian equivalent, the film takes things a step further, adding strong depth and resonance to what could otherwise have been an unremarkable adaptation.
Fred Topel | United Press International | Fresh | — | 2022-08-09T16:47:30Z | 2022-08-09 16:47:30 | Laal Singh Chadda is faithful to Forrest Gump from the floating feather to the plot structure. Since the history is less vital to the narrative, it gives the story itself more weight, with some new thematic context.
Siddhant Adlakha | JoySauce.com | Fresh | — | 2022-08-09T13:49:16Z | 2022-08-09 13:49:16 | An effective (if messy) adaptation that not only localizes the specifics of Forrest Gump, but translates its relationship with its setting, swapping the self-professed peace and prosperity of ’90s America for a more volatile and nationalistic climate
